What are the benefits of EAAs?

Georgina Roberts Updated by Georgina Roberts

EAAs are the 9 amino acids our bodies cannot synthesize, and therefore we need to obtain from our food and/or supplementation. In the past BCAAs (3 of the EAAs) were most recommended for enhancing muscle protein synthesis, but as nutritional science has evolved it is now recommended that a balanced EAA profile is more beneficial. Amino acids do not work independently, rather harmoniously with each other and therefore should be consumed as such. All are required in order to encourage protein synthesis, particularly in the case of muscle protein synthesis. EAA supplementation can help to prevent a catabolic state, assist in building muscle mass and improve metabolism.
